a diploma doesnt outweigh experience and it takes neither to get a job as an officer and that is my point. you do not have to have any form of ethics honor or legal training in order to patrol th estreets and effect others lives
what experience does it take to get any job? do you need experience to go into the army? do you need experience to get a job at a grocery store? And first of all, you have to pass a polygraph about your life, you have to go through 5-6 months of an academy(some places longer) plus another 4 months of on the street training with a training officer and then a year of being on probation.
They just don’t give you a gun and badge and throw you on the street with no training…please.

no your required to have yoru own gun at the academy and not every department requires polygraph. you do not always go out with a training officer. if you dont hit the streets in your first few years but sit behind a desk or on the radios you may not ever receive a partner or trainer prior to going on the streets. that is what some departments lack is a proper understanding of training and is the reason often that departments seek out training on their own because higher ups do realize this
often the military gets the call to train them due to post/civillian relations. I personally have trained officers under such circumstance. and yes they do come in completely ignorant and completely without a code of ethics in their lives. and those officers go on to departments all the time.
Well all the departments I know issue the gun, you just don’t show up with your own gun, and all the departments I know you’re with a Field Training Officer for at least 12 weeks, and on probation for a year.
